Sometimes it is hard to follow exactly what is meant on web sites today. In order to help ease that confusion we have created a quick glossary for you so that when we say something... you know what we mean...


Definition
Feed A set of predefined keywords and phrases coupled with your own words and phrases the will be used to search the interent.
Article A summarized piece of information found on the Internet, returned to you with a title, summary and hyperlink to view the source file.
Widget A Research Hound program that you can use to view your feed. Small desktop programs, web site controls and utilities that we have created for your use.
Workflow A step by step approval process for your content. If you choose, you can use the workflow in Research Hound to "approve" content before it shows up in your feed.
Domain We define a domain as one of the following:
A web site URL, like www.researchhound.com
A network domain that passes through a Proxy Server or router so that your business is uniquely identifiable on the Internet.
RSS RSS is a family of Web feed formats used to publish frequently updated works—such as blog entries, news headlines, audio, and video—in a standardized format.
Content Editor A Research Hound Control that lets you create a full page article of your own that you can use on your web site.
Category A top level grouping subject area. Research Hound uses this to supply a base set of keyword(s) to narrow your subject matter search. Every Feed must have a category, even if General.
SubCategory A related grouping subject area to a category, that further defines more precise keyword(s) to improve result quality.
Keyword A single word or phrase that is submitted as a portion of your search string. You can place more than one word in the text box, like "Research Hound", and it will be treated as a single phrase in your search.
Alternate Keyword These words or phrases are used to create iterative searches one at a time with slightly different words submitted one after another to improve results and more returned data.
Subscription A monthly or annual account with Reseearch Hound, that provides you access to your feeds.
Smartphone An intelligent mobile device that can view a web page or have client software installed.
